Strategies:
The U.S's:
1. Secure the small islands in front of the coast of Leyte.
2. Assault the main area between Dulag and Tacloban (including the seizure of the Japanese airstrip, advancing through Leyte Valley, and opening the San Juanico and Panaon Straits).
3. Finish necessary operations to capture Leyte shore to shore and the southern part of Samar.
4. Possibly neutralize Samar and other enemy positions in the Visayas.
Japan's:
1. Fortify Palo Hill with trenches to defend as the U.S. comes across the main area (in addition to other defended areas).
2. Attack the U.S. Navy and the incoming invasions on the beaches with the Japanese cruisers and battleships.
3. Attack with the air fleet; Japan also had Kamikazi planes (planes which would fly and crash into a specific area, killing the target and the flier).
